Overview
While RHEL 7 was very different from RHEL 6 with the arrival of Systemd, Network Manager and Firewalld, RHEL 8 shouldn’t change habits too much.
After the upheaval caused by RHEL 7, RedHat did not want to perturb its customers again.
From the outside, few changes are visible: mainly the package management organization. However, when you start drilling, you will find many changes under the hood.
Remarks
Some features presented as new with RHEL 8 were already existing for some time on the most recent releases of RHEL 7 like:
- Container toolkit (buildah, podman, skopeo)
- Ansible System Roles
- Cockpit
RHEL 8 is now also supported on ARM 64-bit, IBM Power and IBM Z architectures.
