ISACA’s global community is made up of digital trust professionals and highly engaged volunteers who enable ISACA to be responsive to rapidly evolving industry trends. Thanks to the contributions of our volunteer community, ISACA can create globally respected certifications, educational and training resources, events that empower professionals across industries, mentorship opportunities and much more.

In appreciation of all of our volunteers, ISACA is celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Week 17-21 April 2023! This week will highlight volunteers’ experiences with ISACA and allow them to share their stories and successes. Every day this week, there will be a new volunteer profile featured on the ISACA Now blog to spotlight our diverse volunteers from around the world. Here are some of the insights these volunteers had to share:

Volunteering: “Not only does it provide a great opportunity to gain a meaningful experience but also a chance to give back the community of people who share the same passion.” – Han Jumashov, recent university graduate

Connections: “Being involved with ISACA means being connected to a lot of professionals and experts on many different topics. Publications, training and conferences provide access to insightful information, an exchange of ideas, networking and continuous learning opportunities.” – Julia Hermann, security professional and ISACA Germany Chapter Vice President

Learning: “Interaction with a global team of experts provides a great learning experience. Reviewing frameworks, journals, articles, whitepapers and blogs for ISACA, authoring articles and contributing to ISACA’s third party media outlets help to keep me abreast of emerging technologies. New technologies bring new risks and getting to know emerging technologies helps to identify, analyze, evaluate risks and I’m in a better position to propose risk treatment plans for the identified risks.” – Chetan Anand, AVP–Information Security and CISO at Profinch Solutions

Community: “There are many moments when I felt proud to be part of the ISACA family, but one I remember is when my friend and I were on a tour in Masai Mara, Kenya. We were wearing ISACA caps and met a few other tourists who were thrilled to meet other ISACA family members.” – Sunil Bakshi, founder and past president of the ISACA Pune (India) Chapter and a longtime ISACA volunteer

Every day: “My day-to-day work is attending meetings and working with stakeholders to execute initiatives or improve their processes. In this context, ISACA has played a crucial role, especially the COBIT framework. I am able to converse with the stakeholders about technical issues, business risks and control requirements, and bridging them all together.” – Joyce Chua, First Vice President, Data Management Office at UOB Group

By sharing their knowledge, expanding their networks and establishing a community around them, these professionals embody ISACA’s longstanding spirit of volunteerism. From various volunteering experiences to the connections they created, the lessons they learned, the network they developed and the day-to-day work they do, these volunteers know how to make the most of their involvement and to strive for greatness in their respective fields.

These growth opportunities can be developed further through the ISACA Mentorship Program, which opens the door for one-on-one mentor and mentee relationships, and connects members of the community across all stages of their careers. Mentorship underscores the human element of strengthening the digital trust fields and creates a space for new and experienced professionals to learn from and grow with each other.
