In August 2018, ISACA surveyed IT auditors for The Future of IT Audit: Research Brief to gain insight on what the future of the audit profession may look like in the wake of emerging technology. The survey shows that auditors are becoming an increasingly integral part of an organization’s technology projects and team, and auditors only expect their involvement to increase in the next 3-5 years.
Additionally, many IT auditors feel that automation offers new opportunities to develop new technical skills, and that the role of the auditor will continue to evolve and change in the future. Overall, the data indicate that auditors will have increased prospects of enhancing their value to enterprises in the next few years.
