Schaumburg, IL USA —Tim Mason, who galvanized ISACA’s Purpose of helping technology professionals and their enterprises worldwide realize the positive potential of technology, passed away suddenly 31 October 2018. He was 59.

Tim spent the past six years at ISACA, most recently as Chief Experience Officer & SVP, Operations. He joined ISACA in 2012 as Chief Marketing Officer, and is credited with improving performance and growth across the organization, including in marketing, communications, certification, customer experience and learning solutions.

“Tim has had a profound impact upon ISACA and was key to improving many of our programs and conferences,” said Rob Clyde, ISACA Board Chair. “Tim was future-focused, and always had fun and insightful ideas to deliver upon ISACA’s Purpose and Promise. We will miss Tim, and we send our deepest condolences to his wife and family.”

Together, ISACA’s members, certification-holders, volunteers and professional staff are driven to advance the opportunities technology can deliver – a vision that Tim devised and enthusiastically spread throughout ISACA’s global professional community.

“You can talk about assurance and you can talk about governance, but at the end of the day, our purpose in doing that work is to ensure the positive potential of technology,” Tim said in a video highlighting ISACA’s Purpose and Promise statements, developed and in use at the global professional association since 2016.

Before joining ISACA, Tim was Senior Director of Marketing at Motorola Solutions, where he was a colleague of Gary Van Prooyen, who is now ISACA Vice President of Marketing and Communications.

“Tim was edgy, smart and hilarious, and always thinking five steps ahead,” Van Prooyen said. “He made this place bright and optimistic. I was truly blessed to call him my boss, my mentor and my friend.”

Tim was recruited to ISACA to fundamentally transform marketing into a strategic, value-add, insights-and-results-driven business operation. Over the last several years, he also was asked to lead membership, sales, product management, communications, training, education, consumer insights and market planning. In 2017, Tim was named to the role he held at the time of his death, assuming organization-wide operations responsibilities and elevating his leadership role to drive incredible experiences at every touch point.

Throughout his career, Tim specialized in global brand management, organizational transformation, M&A strategy, global business development, strategy development, thought leadership and business operations. As well, he focused on leadership skills development, organizational momentum, culture, and, importantly at ISACA, mentoring and supporting the development and success of young professionals on staff.

Tim is survived by his wife, Brenda, his children, Caitlyn and Nicholas, and his granddaughter, Makenna. Memorial arrangements are pending.
